What to Do in Pantelleria: Summer 2020 Event Calendar

A calendar rich in events, with a program organized by the City of Pantelleria in collaboration with numerous associations of the territory and with the harbor master's office, ranging from music, cinema, theater and shows, to tastings of typical products, book presentations and initiatives dedicated to the sea and ecology. Despite a difficult season, the summer of 2020 on the island offers many not-to-be-missed events until late September, designed for everyone. SUMMER 2020: CONCERTS IN PANTELLERIA
Already starting with music, you can tell that the program of events caters to a variety of tastes. There is room for classical music, with the piano, bassoon and trumpet concert by Sinforosa Petralia (August 6), to continue the following week, with the jazz of the Cossyra Jazz Group (August 13) and the tribute to Renzo Arbore and the Italian Orchestra by Luna Rossa (August 15); then it continues with I Malacarne Blues Duo (August 20), Luca Valenza Soul Experience (August 22) and Seabemolle (August 28); the month ends with the notes of Passi nel Vento Jazz Quartet (August 30) and Sound Contamination by Luca Valenza (August 31), while September begins with L'Afro Funk Arkestra (September 2), continuing on September 3, as part of the "Sea for All" initiative, with the concert on the Nuages by Seabemolle. Luca Valenza Soul Experience back on stage on September 5, while the night after it's the turn of Danilo Ruggero, Gianni Belvisi Guest Star. Grand finale with Arisa (September 17) and with Alice singing Battiato on September 18.

EVENTS AND SHOWS IN PANTELLERIA
Theater, cabaret and shows in the square. And the prestigious Fantastichini Award, dedicated to the best emerging actors, which will be presented by Beppe Convertini and will have as its exceptional godmother Isabella Ferrari. In addition to the event that will take place on August 8th, the day after a masterclass with Alessandro Haber will be organized at the Medieval Castle. All the other shows scheduled for the summer will be on the main stage in Piazza Cavour. On August 7th, it will be the turn of "Contro" with Livia Lupattelli, while on the 11th it will be the turn of Roberto Lipari in "Scusate se insisto"; on the night of Ferragosto, "White Night Light" will be staged, while on August 16th, Gianni Nanfa will take the stage in "Chi mi Bada?". "Cantastorie in viaggio tra due mondi" is the show curated by Nuccia Farina scheduled for August 23rd and "Jukebox" is the one by and with Luca Pezzullo, on stage on August 26th. September opens with "Corri", based on the book by Roberto Di Sante with Sebastiano Gavasso, while on September 11th the appointment is with the Sansoni in "Fratelli ma non troppo". The finale on September 12th is the amusing "Niuiorc Niuiorc" with Francesco Foti. PANTELLERIA CUISINE: FESTIVALS AND TASTINGS ON THE ISLAND For lovers of the flavors of Pantelleria cuisine and its typical products and dishes, such as couscous, capers, and passito, tastings curated by Pantelleria Eroica are scheduled every Thursday evening from August 9th to September 27th at Borgo Italia. In addition, on August 29th and 30th in Piazza Cavour, it will be possible to participate in the first edition of the "Sagra dello Zibibbo e della Cucina Pantesca", curated by "I Viddrani". OUTDOOR CINEMA: WHAT A SHOW IN PANTELLERIA! A true film lover doesn't take a break from their passion, and this unusual summer has brought back an old-fashioned phenomenon: outdoor cinema. Pantelleria offers its own version, with various shows in Messina Square, all starting at 10pm. Here are the scheduled dates:

  • August 18th, "The Youngest Son" by Pupi Avati;
  • August 21st, "The First Beautiful Thing" by Paolo Virzì;
  • August 25th, "Where Am I Going?" by Gennaro Nunziante with Checco Zalone;
  • September 1st, "Pride" by Matthew Warchus;
  • September 10th, "Let's go to the village" by and with Ficarra and Picone;
  • September 13th, "Latin Lover" by Cristina Comencini;
  • September 19th, "An Almost Perfect Country" by Massimo Gaudioso with Fabio Volo, Silvio Orlando and Miriam Leone;
  • September 20th, "Italian Race" by Matteo Rovere with Stefano Accorsi;
  • September 27th, "Forever Young" by Fausto Brizzi with Fabrizio Bentivoglio, Sabrina Ferilli and Teo Teocoli.

A SUMMER FULL OF CULTURE...AND BOOKS
The council chamber in Pantelleria Castle will be the venue for some book presentations: on Friday August 7th, there will be a presentation by Venerina Gabriele of "The Echo of the Mistral," on August 21st, Marilina Giaquinta will present her book "Don't Break Anything," while on September 3rd, Roberto Di Sante will meet readers with "Three"; finally, on September 12th, Giacomo Pilati with the Precious Pantelleria Association will present "All the Women in the Books of Giacomo Pilati".
The council chamber will also host the "Project from Pantelleria" award by Pantelleria Internet on August 17th.
Finally, on September 3rd, the Port Authority, with the patronage of the Municipality, will organize and promote "Sea for All"; an outing at sea with disabled children.

HOW TO PARTICIPATE IN THE 2020 SUMMER EVENTS IN PANTELLERIA
Except for tastings, the festival, and events at sea, entrance to all events will be limited and by reservation only, with seats available until sold out. In addition, an self-certification form must be presented at the entrance, which can be downloaded from the Municipality's website.
